Mitsotakis, Johnson discuss Brexit, Turkish provocations and the pandemic

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson in a telephone conversation yesterday with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, emphasised that there will be no more trade talks with the European Union unless the bloc fundamentally changes its stance on the discussions.

According to government sources, Mitsotakis briefed his British counterpart on "the problems Turkey's behaviour creates in the Eastern Mediterranean, and reiterated Greece's willingness to resolve the maritime zone delineation issue through diplomatic channels."

Bilateral relations, Brexit, the two countries' response and effectiveness in managing the pandemic, as well as the prospect of developing a vaccine, was also discussed.

The conversation also touched upon the recent Turkish Cypriot presidential election, which was won by Ersin Tatar. "The prime minister was clear that a settlement in Cyprus was in everyone's interest," Cypriot spokesman Kyriacos Kousios said.

Concluding, Mitsotakis and Johnson stressed the need to strengthen bilateral relations ahead of the 200 years of Greek independence.
