Kalimera from Beirut: Now Showing Byzanfest 2020

Kalimera from Beirut is now showing as part of the Byzanfest Orthodox Film Festival.

Greek City Times is a proud media partner of the Byzanfest Orthodox Film festival which runs from 23rd October until 8th November (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on the official Festival website: byzanfest.com. 

The Byazanfest film festival showcases films which reflect Orthodox Christian themes, beliefs, culture and values.

KALIMERA FROM BEIRUT

Sixteen years ago, young George Eid made an oath to his dying Greek grandfather in Beirut: to find the roots of his family who moved from Smyrna to Lebanon in 1922 and reconstruct the history of the Greeks in Lebanon.

Fulfilling the promise took a bit of time but George, now a journalist for a large network, has done it. Kalimera from Beirut is the first documentary about the Greek community in Lebanon.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY

George Eid (Arabic: جورج عيد‎‎) (born June 25, 1985) is a Lebanese-multilingual-journalist–reporter-anchor-War correspondent-Documentary producer-University Lecturer of Greek descent who is known for his bold liberal and unresearched reports and articles. He is among the young journalists who appeared in Lebanon After 2007. At a young age he made a fast debut going through radio, television, e-media and written media in a period of seven years. Founding Member of Murr television Lebanon and Sky News Arabia. He was one of the first international correspondents to enter Aleppo to cover the Syrian conflict in 2012. He is also the producer of the 1st documentary about the Greek of Lebanon "Kalimera Men Beirut" which was launched in March 2017.

ABOUT BYZANFEST 2020

Established in 2014, Byzanfest is the world's only online Orthodox Christian film festival streaming the very best short and feature-length films.

The festival showcases films which reflect Orthodox Christian themes, beliefs, culture and values. All films tell visual stories which are inspired and guided by living a life in Christ.

All films will be available to view on-demand globally from 23rd October until 8th November (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on the official Festival website: byzanfest.com.

This year’s event is split into two sections: short-films and feature-lengths.

The short-film section will comprise of 14 films – all FREE to view – from Byzanfest’s YouTube channel.

The feature-length collection of 13 films will be available via the Festival’s Vimeo channel. Some will be FREE to view and others can be ‘rented’ for a 24-hour period.
