France has lifted its security alert status to the highest level after a knife-wielding attacker shouting "Allahu Akbar" beheaded a woman and killed two other people in the Notre Dame Basilica, in the city of Nice.
French national police identified the suspect as Brahim Aouissaoui, a 21-year-old Tunisian migrant.
Greece's Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he was appalled by the terrorist attack in Nice and expressed his solidarity with the people in France.
"Profondément choqué par l' attaque terroriste de Nice. Pleine solidarité envers la France. Nous sommes unis," Mitsotakis posted on twitter.
On her part, the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou also expressed her solidarity: "Toute ma solidarité au peuple français et au Président Emmanuel Macron pour l'attaque terroriste de Nice. Nos valeurs communes sont en péril. L’Europe ne cédera pas au fanatisme religieux et à l'intolérance."
