Further COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in Greece will begin on November 3

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the new measures the government will take in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.

From Tuesday, a month-long program comes into force to try and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Mitsotakis in his address to Greece earlier today, emphasized the need to "move precautionarily with a dynamic plan in November" in order to avoid a universal lockdown, which would hurt the economy and society.

In short, the Prime Minister announced the following to combat COVID-19.

  • Use of a mask everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Daily curfews from midnight to 5:00 in the morning.
  • Complete distance learning in universities.
  • No gatherings.

In the High Risk Zone, the operation of all dining areas is suspended, except for home deliveries and receiving a receipt from the store.

"The same will apply to places of entertainment, culture and sports - Bars, cafes, cinemas, museums and theaters, as well as indoor gyms," Mitsotakis said.

"Unlike in the spring, however, travel outside the prefecture is not prohibited," the prime minister added.

Mitsotakis added that compared to the first phase of COVID-19, movement without the need to send messages is allowed, retail stores remain open, and schools operate normally .

"To put it another way, we are not talking about a total freezing of everyday life. Why I will repeat it: A universal lockdown is the last step, which would hurt the economy and society," he said, adding that the government's plan is accompanied by an emergency program to support workers and companies.
