Volkswagen set to turn Astypalaia into a "green" and "smart" island

A memorandum of cooperation between Greece and Volkswagen will be signed on Wednesday morning.

After several months of joint preparation with the Greek government, the Volkswagen Group selected Astypalaia for the implementation of its Green & Sustainable Island project.

The German automaker plans to transform Astypalaia into a "green" and "smart" island with electric vehicles and the development of an electricity production unit that will be carbon neutral, covering the entire set of the island’s power requirements.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and officials from the automaker company, will announce further details of the environmentally-friendly project.

Greece has become a destination for attractive innovative investments, like Microsoft. The country also plans to move towards renewable energy sources.
