Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias renewed a request for Germany to embargo and cancel its arms sales to Turkey during his Wednesday visit to Berlin.

During the visit, the Greek Foreign Minister met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the German Parliament Wolfgang Schäuble, the chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, Gunther Krichbaum and other senior officials.

Although Dendias' meeting with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas was canceled after he went into precautionary quarantine for a possible contact with a COVID-19 case, he met with the Greens Party who may become part of a coalition government in the 2021 national elections.

Germany is in the process of selling and delivering the Type 214 submarines, despite the threat that this weapon could pose to “EU member-states such as Cyprus and Greece, but also in general threaten stability in the region," as Dendias said.

Berlin thus far is refusing to cancel the sale, perfectly satisfied that these submarines could easily be turned against Greece and Cyprus.

“The country that refuses to come to the negotiating table and resolve our disputes under international law regarding maritime zones is the same offending country, Turkey,” Dendias said during his working visit to Berlin, adding Ankara transfers jihadists from Syria to Libya and from Libya to the Caucasus.

  1. Dear Germany. IF you continue with this evil act of selling weapons to Turkey, and then Turkey uses them against Hellas or Cyprus, the full weight of international law will be brought down upon you. On top of that, you can expect more direct responses from fully trained Hellenic defence force personnel. Is that WHAT you want? You want to war with Hellas to finally make us pay for kicking you in the groin in WW2? You want Hellenic and Cypriot people to face the very real possibility of armed conflict with a belligerent Erdogan fully backed by your weaponry? And you call yourselves civilised and Christian. I think not.
