Shooter of Father Nikolaos Kakavelakis is arrested, accuses priest of extramarital affair

The gunman who shot Greek Orthodox priest Nikolaos Kakavelakis outside the Church of Anunciation in Lyon has been arrested by French police.

Saturday, October 31st. French media reported that the man was arrested yesterday.

According to French newspaper Le Figaro, the October 31 shooting was a crime of passion

Le Figaro reported that the perpetrator confessed to his act and said that the priest had an affair with his wife.

The gunman's wife is also in custody.

Father Kakavelakis was seriously wounded by a shotgun, one bullet in the liver and another in the chest.

He underwent surgery on Monday and is now out of a coma, Wednesday and was able to tell investigators who had fired.

The gunman's wife is also in custody, according to the same publication.

The priest had announced his resignation a month earlier.
