Greece announces change to supermarket trading hours

From Monday the 16th of November, supermarkets in Greece will close at 8:30pm.

The announcement was made by Alternate Development and Investment Minister Nikos Papathanasis on ERT.

This comes as a nationwide night curfew (from 9pm-5am) starts on Friday.

Furthermore, supermarkets will also remain closed this Sunday (November 15). "At the moment the flow is normal and there are enough products, there is no reason for them to open on Sunday," Papathanasis said.

Furthermore, Secretary-General of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Panagiotis Stampoulidis clarified during an interview with THEMA 104.6 radio, that delivery and take away services will operate normally after 9 pm. If someone, for example, goes to work they can get something to eat.

Greece entered its second nationwide lockdown last week, in a bid to curb the spread of covid-19 and prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
