Samos is still experiencing difficulty, even many days after the deadly and catastrophic earthquake struck the island on October 30.

It may be many days since the catastrophic earthquake struck the Eastern Aegean and especially Samos, but the island is still tending to its wounds.

The daily life of the inhabitants is not an easy task.

Around 450 people remain homeless, points out George Kyriazis, president of the Samos Chamber.

"Some are still living in tents," he said.

"Around 260 people stay in hotels, while others have settled with relatives and friends," the mayor of Eastern Samos, George Stantzos, told Sputnik Hellas.

At the same time, more than 1,300 homes have been deemed unsuitable.

"The inspections are continuing and the number of unsuitable houses is expected to increase. We need more specialized technical staff to record the damage," added the mayor.

The town hall of Eastern Samos is also unsuitable.

In the Municipality of Eastern Samos, the services of the town hall have been transferred to military tents in the courtyard of the town hall as the building has been deemed unsuitable.

At the same time, local authorities have set up tents to welcome residents in the event of a strong earthquake .

"We are constantly feeling the aftershocks. [On Tuesday] at dawn we had n aftershock about 4 Richters. We are taking the necessary measures," the mayor said.

Local authorities agree that the island's economy is dead.

"The demand of the commercial world in the city remains compensation payment to the victims to rebuild their stores. The tsunami that arose after the earthquake destroyed the beach shops," added Kyriazis.

It is recalled that the Ministry of Finance had announced eight measures to support individuals and legal entities affected by the earthquake in Samos, which killed two students who were crushed by a collapsed wall.
