The health condition of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, was described as “satisfactory” in a medical update issued by Athens’ Evangelismos Hospital on Wednesday.

Last week, the 82-year-old archbishop was admitted to Evangelismos Hospital for precautionary reasons, and was later diagnosed with Covid-19.

"Αrchbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos received and is receiving the same treatment as all others of the same age and with the Archbishop’s medical history who are infected with the coronavirus, while all protocols followed for any patient with COVID-19 who belongs to this category of patients were implemented," the director of the Athens Archdiocese communications office, Haris Konidaris told AMNA.

"In any case, the Archbishop would never accept 'special' or 'privileged' treatment, both because of his title but mostly because of his character," Konidaris added.

"Scientists and all manner of hangers-on, analysts, commentators and any kind of critic - a species very common in Greece - that have no knowledge of the patient's medical file nor treat him personally as they are not his doctors who would do well to look to their own affairs and not spread their ignorance, lack of expertise and fictions - along with their unquenchable thirst for self-promotion - in the public sphere," he concluded.
