Hand grenade found in garbage truck in Volos

A hand grenade was found in a garbage collection vehicle travelling in centre of Volos on Monday.

Authorities say the truck stopped at the intersection of Alexandras St and Ikonomaki St after workers discovered the 'small explosive device'.

The area was cordoned off until the bomb squad arrived and took the device away.

The grenade was apparently collected from a street dumpster during an earlier garbage collection round.

Any type of ordnance - whether explosives or old ammunition - needs to be disposed of properly and safely, not by throwing it out with the trash.
