Deputy FM: Greece can be a gateway to Europe for Southeast Asia

Greece can be an entry point for Southeast Asia to reach Europe because of its strategic geographical location, said Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Vlasis.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias chose Vlasis to represent Greece in a Meeting of Ministers, in which only three deputy ministers participated.

Due to the special circumstances, the Ministerial Meeting was hosted by Singapore and was held online on Tuesday morning.

The EU-ASEAN Summit was attended by German Foreign Minister Haiko Maas, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the role that Greece plays in the depths of history as a world-class naval power and in its strategic geographical location as a crossroads of Asia, the Balkans and Europe on the world map, establishing a basis for economic cooperation and development.

Vlasis made an extensive report on the energy policy of his government which will bring a new era in renewable energy sources for electricity production.

At the same time, as he noted Greece is an energy hub between Central Asia and Europe, which brings benefits in economic development and international trade.

The Deputy Minister praised his country's faith in the great importance of the EU-ASEAN dialogue for science and innovation with the evolution of digital interaction, which as a new "silk road" can strengthen ties between countries.
