Diego Maradona: Striking mural of football icon in Thessaloniki

A graffiti artist has unveiled his latest mural dedicated to football icon Maradona.

Diego Maradona, one of the greatest footballers of all time, passed away last week at the age of 60.

The tribute, created by HAYATE, is located on the wall of a local football ground in the the Kalamaria neighborhood of Thessaloniki.

The incredible work shows Maradona in the blue and white stripes of Argentina.

"We love and remember a man for the work he has done and his was to change football worldwide by making the crowds talk and cheer his name," HAYATE said.

Interestingly, the football legend scored his last goal with the Argentina national team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA during a Group D stage game against Greece.

Maradona was also known as a supporter of Olympiacos, visiting Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in 2005 and telling thousands of fans “Long live Greece, long live Olympiacos.”
