Greek police extends metro shutdowns on Sunday, introduces fine for public gathering

Greek police announced stiff fines for people gathering outdoors on Sunday, the 12th anniversary of the murder of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a police officer, for reasons of public health related to the coronavirus pandemic, while it extended the number of shut Athens metro stations.

As of 05:00 to midnight on Sunday, individuals who participate in such gatherings will be fined 300 euros while organizers will be fined 3,000 euros if individuals and 5,000 euros if legal entities, Hellenic Police headquarters said.

Police extended the gradual shutdown of metro stations from the original six to the following on Lines 1, 2 and 3 (listed alphabetically below). Trains will pass through these stations - which include switching stations Syntagma, Omonia, and Attiki - without stopping.

Tram line

Tram stations between Syntagma and Egeou in Nea Smyrni will not operate, Greek police said on Sunday.
The tram will continue to operate between Egeou and Voula, as usual.
