Captain Apostolos Apostolakis was awarded Seafarer of the Year at the prestigious Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards last week.
He received the honorary award for the way he handled a coronavirus outbreak on board a ship earlier this year.
It is recalled in April, a large number of passengers and crew on the Eleftherios Venizelos passenger ferry tested positive for covid-19.
Apostolakis, who works for Greek passenger shipping company ANEK Lines, also tested positive for the novel virus, however was quick to implement anti-coronavirus measures.
He isolated the sick passengers and transferred those severely ill to receive treatment. The rest, remained in strict quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure.
The safety of all passengers and crew members was and will always be a top priority for Captain Apostolos Apostolakis, who comes from a long line of seafarers.
