Russia’s reaction to the signing of a memorandum to establish a conference of all Albanian-populated areas was strong.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the signing of a memorandum on the establishment of a joint conference between Albanian-populated areas covering the entire territory of Kosovo.
She said in a statement that Tirana, Skopje and Pristina have the ultimate goal of promoting the idea of a Greater Albania.
The signed agreement is supposed to promote the cooperation of local governments, but in reality, it is an attempt to create a pan-Albanian space, ignoring the territorial sovereignty and borders of internationally recognized states, she noted.
Describing the move as cynical against the backdrop of years of efforts by Kosovo to create a union, she stressed that the European Union, which acts as a mediator in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, still cannot force Kosovo’s Albanians to abide by agreements made.
In conclusion, Zakharova called on the Union to pursue a balanced policy on the issue and work intensively to abide by what has been agreed.
