Anastasiades will be one of the first to be vaccinated in Cyprus

President Nicos Anastasiades will be among the first to be vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine in Cyprus, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios said in a written statement.

"The vaccination of the President of the Republic will take place immediately after the arrival of the vaccine in Cyprus, within the first stage of vaccination of citizens, as provided by the vaccination plan of the Ministry of Health," said Kousios.

The Republic of Cyprus has requested to be informed, through the bi-communal Technical Committee for Health, about the number of COVID-19 vaccines that will be needed for vaccinating Turkish Cypriots in the occupied territories.

The Greek Cypriot co-chair of the Commission, Leonidas Fylaktou, said that he is in contact with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus on the issue of vaccinating Turkish Cypriots.

"I have been asked how many people will be vaccinated in the occupied territories. I asked for the information yesterday in a telephone conversation I had with the Turkish Cypriot co-chair of the Commission and I expect them to give it to me," he said.

Fylaktou also said that he expects the Ministry of Health will soon ask him to be informed by the Turkish Cypriot side on other issues, but mainly concerning the granting of vaccines to Turkish Cypriots.

It is recalled that the Cypriot Ministry of Health had announced in July that it had forwarded, in the context of the European Commission's joint negotiation for all EU Member States, the need to supply 1.2 million vaccines to Cyprus.

This includes Turkish Cypriots.

Anastasiades is ensuring that EU vaccinations will reach occupied northern Cyprus.
