Greece will launch an online platform that will give citizens the chance to get tested at no cost.
Infectious diseases expert Gkikas Magiorkinis said the ministry is now adding free random sample tests for the public to its strategy, following the establishment of rapid tests, in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in Greece.
The platform – testing.gov.gr – will go online on Monday night, December 21, 2020.
Magiorkinis said that the tool will allow health authorities “get a better epidemiological picture on the virus’ dispersion.”
Those interested in getting tested for the coronavirus, can fill out an application form and then wait to be randomly chosen by the system.
The applicants selected will receive an sms with further details (which testing site to visit and the time).
“With the arrival of reliable and fast antibodies tests, we are now adding to our strategy random, free, spot checks throughout Greece, the target being to have 12,000 random tests done per day,” he said.
The first group of 12,000 people selected at random will be notified via sms on Saturday, December 26, with the first appointments taking place on Monday, December 28.
