Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis received the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday morning.

The Cypriot President, who was vaccinated at the Latsia Health Center in Nicosia, described it as a "gift of life".

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.

Anastasiadis thanked doctors, nurses, and all those who stood on the front lines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He however pointed that there is a long way to go until the final victory against the pandemic and called on Cypriots to continue observing the measures.

"It is the vaccine that will protect us, it is the vaccine that will strengthen not just hope, but the right to life. Thank you very much," Anastasiadis said.

"2021 should be the restart of a new life or a new path to real life, as we had lived for so many years," the Cypriot President underlined.

Asked whether the vaccine has been sent to the Turkish-speaking Cypriot community, Anastasiadis pointed out that "we have ordered, in the arrangements made, to cover the entire population of the Republic of Cyprus, either Greek Cypriot or Turkish Cypriot."

He explained that it is a matter of occupied Cyprus having the necessary infrastructure so Turkish-speaking Cypriots can be supplied with vaccines.
