Not long ago Disney announced that they are producing a new biopic called ‘Greek Freak’, which will offer fans an insight into Giannis Antetokounmpo’s life before all the fame.
On the latest episode of Michael Scotto’s HoopsHype podcast, South Africa-based director Akin Omotoso has given a sneak peak into how the project is progressing
"His story is so inspirational. It’s a family story. Viewers can look forward to a very inspirational story. You get a chance to get behind the scenes. It’s a really emotional story. I was really moved. When I first read the script, I cried," Omotoso said.
When asked what he has learnt about Antetokounmpo’s life while working on this project, he responded that the 'Greek Freak' has "a great deal of integrity, and you realize where that comes from when you start going deeper than the box scores with that. He holds himself to a standard that inspires.
He also commented that Antetokounmpo playing in the NBA while working as an executive producer on the film, will be “a challenge.”
"It is a challenge, but we’re all confident that we’ll make it work. It’s a priority in terms of telling the story, but it’s also a priority for all of us that he’s successful on the court. We all know what the Bucks are trying to do, and we’re totally supportive of that. I think, like everything, you find the balance. We’re looking forward to being part of that journey and being as available as we all can be when we can be and still make it work. It’s exciting."
As for who will be playing the role of the 'Greek Freak'... Omotoso's lips are sealed.
"It is a hard task but one which I find really exciting and I know that as we go through this process, we’ll find the right person.”
The 'Greek Freak', Giannis Antetokounmpo agrees to 5-year extension with Milwaukee Bucks
Earlier this month, Superstar basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo agreed to a five-year, supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks.
According to reports, he signed the largest deal in NBA history – $228 million.
“This is my home, this is my city. I’m blessed to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks for the next 5 years. Let’s make these years count. The show goes on, let’s get it,” the two-time reigning MVP posted on his social media platforms.
The “Greek Freak” has career averages of 20.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
