Greece's former Prime Minister, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, was vaccinated for COVID-19 on Monday at Athens' Evangelismos Hospital.
"Greek citizens have every reason to feel insecure given the government's management of the pandemic so far, to feel insecure about its actions and especially its criminal omissions. They have no reason, however, to feel insecure about the vaccine and vaccination," Tsipras said after being vaccinated.
"The vaccine is a weapon that science offers us to face the pandemic and the virus. If only it were possible to quickly immunise the greater part of the population, and especially the vulnerable groups," he added.
On Sunday, Greek President Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Mitsotakis and professor of Pathology and Infectious Diseases, Sotiris Tsiodras, were vaccinated.
The main opposition leader urged anyone still hesitating to come forward and be vaccinated, stressing that there was no reason to be fearful and that "we must all do what we can so that we are able to get our lives back."
His Eminence Metropolitan Hierotheos (Vlachos) of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios and General Konstantinos Floros, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, have also been vaccinated.

Δεν έχουν κανένα λόγο να αισθάνονται ανασφάλεια απέναντι στο εμβόλιο και στον εμβολιασμό. Δεν υπάρχει καμία δικαιολογία από την πλευρά της κυβέρνησης να ρίχνει όλες τις ελπίδες στον εμβολιασμό, με επικοινωνιακά σόου, και να μην προχωράει στην ενίσχυση του Εθνικού Συστήματος Υγείας. Το σημαντικό «όπλο» που μας προσφέρει η επιστήμη δεν είναι ικανό από μόνο του να μας προστατεύσει από ένα ενδεχόμενο τρίτο κύμα της πανδημίας τους επόμενους μήνες.
