Greek PM condemns violence at US Capitol

As reported by Greek City Times, protesters stormed the US Capitol building on Wednesday during the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential election win.

The situation is ongoing.

In response, the Greek Prime Minister condemned the "violence and horrible events."

"Extremely troubled by the violence and horrible events taking place in Washington D.C. American democracy is resilient, deeply rooted and will overcome this crisis," Kyriakos Mitsotakis posted on Twitter.

Other World Leaders have expressed their shock.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson: "Disgraceful scenes in U.S. Congress. The United States stands for democracy around the world and it is now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power."

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas: "Trump and his supporters should finally accept the decision of the American voters and stop trampling on democracy."

European Parliament President David Sassoli: "Deeply concerning scenes from the US Capitol tonight. Democratic votes must be respected. We are certain the US will ensure that the rules of democracy are protected."

Turkish Foreign Ministry: "We are following with concern the internal developments happening in the U.S. following the Presidential elections which culminated in the Capitol Hill building being breached by protesters today."

"We call on all parties in the U.S. to maintain restraint and prudence. We believe the U.S. will overcome this internal political crisis in a mature manner," it added.
