The view that Islam is not a religion but a political party and pursuit, and its followers are people of war, was said by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos while speaking on OPEN TV.
"They are the people who spread, this is characteristic of Islam," he added, referring to the Mehmed the Conqueror who captured Constantinople.

The Archbishop explained that Mehmet had Greek advisers and had to unite the entire Christian community and entrust it to the Patriarch, and so Gennadius Scholarios was chosen.

For the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, the leader of the Greek Church described the role of the Church in the national struggle as crucial:
"There was no sign of revolution that did not start with a clergyman," said Archbishop Ieronymos.
