2021 is an important milestone for Greece and Greeks around the world.
It marks 200 years since the beginning of the Greek revolution that secured Greece's independence after centuries of Ottoman Turkish tyranny.
On Friday, President of the 'Greece 2021' Committee, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, announced the release of the official line of licenced commemorative and collectible products.
The memorabilia and souvenirs, which include stationery, bags, water bottles, mugs, calendars, and much more, are decorated with the designs and the logo of “Greece 2021”, as well as with symbols and heroes of the Revolution.
Some of the items have phrases spoken by great heroes of the uprising embellished on them, such as the famous phrase of Theodoros Kolokotronis: “The Greeks are crazy, but they have a wise God”.
Committee 2021 President said that these souvenirs will "promote the messages of the 200-year anniversary since the Revolution, a unique anniversary for Greek men and women, by depicting the symbols and heroes of the Greek Revolution but also through phrases that highlight values, such as resilience and a fighting spirit, that accompanied the course of modern Greece."
Apart from their commemorative role, she added, buying these products was yet another way to participate in the mood of the great Greek anniversary, to spread and promote it and make it memorable for all, both young and old.
"It is also one of the ways in which the Committee hopes to implement even more anniversary activities and events, since it is not receiving state funding. The share of revenue, therefore, that belongs to the Committee from their sale will be spent to finance events and the more revenue we have, the more events will be held," Angelopoulos-Daskalaki said.
