The Association of Greek Archaeologists have urged the government to immediately reopen all archaeological sites and museums with the necessary health protection measures.
In a statement issued on Monday, the association joined its voice with that of "artists and those working in the culture sector", asking the government to "immediately set out the required special health protocols in order for theatres and other areas of cultural expression to open with safety."
They also suggested free admission for their first month of operation.
"We are now entering the fourth month in which all cultural venues, among them the museums and the archaeological sites, are closed. The digital actions and the online activities developed are not enough to meet people's need for experimental contact with culture, something that became more apparent during the period of the first quarantine. Culture in all its aspects is a real need," the announcement continued.
"The scientific community now knows more about the pandemic and how to deal with it. At a time when retail and shopping malls have already opened, it is now imperative that cultural spaces be opened, as it breaths life for citizens."

Greece’s Culture Ministry signed an agreement with Cosmote, the largest mobile network operator in Greece, to expand free wireless broadband services at more archaeological sites and museums across the country.
The program started several years ago but the new deal extends broadband coverage to 25 sites and museums, from the current 14.
