A man was arrested at the port of Piraeus on Monday after authorities found in his possession priceless antiquities, including ancient coins dating back to the Classical and Roman era.

The arrest was a coordinated operation organised by the crime prevention and suppression team (OPKE) from the city of Epirus and law enforcement from Attica.

Authorities also found in his possession drugs, specifically 206 grams of processed hemp “chocolate” and a package of raw hemp weighing 24 grams.

In addition, the accused's car and mobile phone were confiscated.

According to police, his destination was the island of Kalymnos where he intended to sell the antiquities and drugs.

The 37 ancient coins were sent to the Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza for examination and assessment.

The man is facing charges of violating laws on the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage and drug trafficking.
