Dendias will visit the Caribbean to build support in the UN to counter Turkish provocations

How does the island state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines all the way in the Caribbean relate to the resumption of exploratory contacts between Greece and Turkey?

The small Caribbean country is one of the 10 non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and in view of developments, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias plans to visit the capital Kingstown for talks with his counterpart.

In the near future, the Greek Foreign Minister is planning a tour of all the countries that in 2021 and 2022 have a non-permanent member position in the Security Council, Proto Thema reported.

Dendias, in consultation with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has drawn up a plan to strengthen Greece's relations with countries that will have a say in Greek-Turkish issues in the Security Council.

In addition to the five permanent members of the Security Council - the USA, Russia, France, China and Britain - the decisions are shaped by the 10 non-permanent members that alternate every two years.

Wanting to explain the Greek view of major national issues, ie relations with Turkey and the Cyprus issue, Dendias intends to travel to all the countries that are non-permanent members of the Security Council.

If conditions allow, Dendias will travel to Kenta and possibly Niger, the two countries in Africa that are in the Security Council.

The plan also includes a visit to Ethiopia, where the African Union is based.

An important non-permanent member of the Security Council is India.

Dendias' meeting with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was scheduled for November, but was postponed due to the pandemic and is expected to be rescheduled in the near future.

The Greek Foreign Minister is in constant telephone contact with his counterpart from Ireland and in regular discussions with the Foreign Ministers of Estonia and Norway, three European countries represented in the Security Council.

Even in Vietnam, the 10th country that is a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Dendias may go, seeking the expansion of the country's alliances.
