Maria Sakkari through to Grampians Trophy semi-finals after victory against Kerber

Maria Sakkari has come out triumphant against German Angelique Kerber on to the Grampians Trophy's semi-finals 6-4 6-2.

Sakkari had a strong run of form entering today Grampians Trophy match, winning against Canadian Leylah Fernandez in straight sets yesterday.

In today's game she was up against former World No. 1, Angelique Kerber is a veteran Open player who has confronted her twice before, losing to the German on both occasions.

The Greek came back from 1-4 and break point down to beat former 1 Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-2 and reach the SFs of the Grampians Trophy.

In the second set, the Greek managed to make a difference early on the score board. maintaining it throughout the set, An erratic Kerber was getting further and further away from the victory,

Sakkari sealed his victory in straight sets, after 1 hour and 19 minutes of action.

She will face Anett Kontaveit tomorrow.
