The Deputy Mayor of Lagada was hospitalised with COVID-19 and placed in the Intensive Care Unit of Papanikolaou Hospital.
However, the Deputy Mayor, George Prokopidis, proved unable to overcome COVID-19 and died in Papanikolaou Hospital.
Mayor Ioannis Tachmatzidis and the municipal councilors of his party expressed their condolences in a Facebook post.
"His contribution to the Municipality of Lagada will remain indelible in the memory of all of us," wrote Tachmatzidis via the Municipality's on Facebook page.
