Athens turns into a snow-globe scene (PHOTOS)

There's something oh-so enchanting about Greece's capital city blanketed in snow.

According to the National Observatory of Athens, the snowfall will continue at intervals until Tuesday.

It is especially special for Athenians who are currently in a two-week covid-19 lockdown.

Authorities have appealed to the public to restrict their movements outside to the essential only.

While snow is common in Greece’s north and its mountains during the winter, it is infrequent on the islands and in the centre of the capital.

Evzones don a cape in the extreme cold

Very low temperatures, even in the centre of Athens, means that the Evzones at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square wear their blue capes to protect themselves from the cold.

It is noted that due to the slippery floor in front of the monument, the changing of the guard was not carried out in the known way with a march, but with a military vehicle.
