Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias spoke with his U.S. counterpart Antony Blinken about Turkish delinquency across the region.
A State Department spokesman also said on Wednesday that Blinken would speak with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
"I would expect the secretary and his Turkish counterpart will have an opportunity to chat, to connect in the coming days, State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters.
Blinken non-the-less contacted Dendias today where they discussed the situation in Syria, Libya and the East Mediterranean, as well as Turkish delinquency.
"I spoke by phone to US Secretary of State and Antony Blinkin," Dendias said on Twitter. "
"Both recognized that bilateral relations between the two countries have reached their highest level ever," he said.
"In this context, ways of further enhancing the strategic cooperation were examined, with special emphasis on the energy and defence fields," the Greek Foreign Minister continued.
"I informed my US counterpart on the deepening of relations with the countries of the Middle East and the Gulf, both bilaterally and in a multilateral context," Dendias explained.
"I also spoke about developments in the broader region, including Libya, Syria, and the Eastern Mediterranean, making also reference to Turkish actions," he concluded.
In speaking about the discussion, Blinken said:
"Pleasure speaking with Nikos Dendias to reaffirm our commitment to further strengthening US-Greece bilateral relations. The U.S. supports ongoing exploratory talks between NATO Allies Greece and Turkey and congratulates Greece on Bicentennial celebrations this year."
Price revealed that in the discussion between Dendias and Blinken that the U.S. "welcomed Greece's sustained leadership in advancing the Transatlantic and European integration of the Western Balkans."
Both diplomats also emphasised "their commitment to further strengthening US-Greece bilateral relations, including through the US-Greece Strategic Dialogue and the 3+1 process with Cyprus and Israel."
They also discussed "close cooperation on defence, energy diversification, and stability in the broader Eastern Mediterranean region."
Meanwhile, Turkey accused the US today of supporting "terrorists" and summoned its ambassador after Washington declined to immediately back Ankara's claim of Kurdish militants executing 13 of its nationals in Iraq.
This however did not stop Blinken from speaking with Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu today.
In a separate tweet, Blinken said:
"I spoke with Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu about the longstanding importance of the US-Turkish bilateral relationship. I look forward to continued cooperation in Syria, counterterrorism, and de-escalation efforts in the Eastern Mediterranean."
