Egypt thanks Greece for its previous representation in Qatar

According to diplomatic sources as reported by Proto Thema, Egypt expressed its gratitude to Greece for representing its interests in Qatar.

"Egypt, through its Ambassador here, expressed its gratitude to Greece a few days ago for the previous representation of Egypt in Qatar," diplomatic sources said.

"In this context, the Egyptian side expressed its gratitude for the assistance of the Egyptian authorities in Qatar, as well as the thousands of Egyptian citizens living in the country," the diplomatic sources added.

"It is recalled that Egypt had severed its diplomatic relations with Qatar about three and a half years ago and had then asked Greece to represent it in that country," the sources continued.

"After the recent agreement of Al-Ula, Egypt decided to reopen its Embassy in Qatar," the same sources emphasised.

Qatar is a major patron and funder of the Muslim Brotherhood movement.

Current Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi came to power after removing the radical organisation from government.

The source stressed:

"The fact that Egypt had asked Greece to represent it in Qatar, signals on the one hand the very close relations between Greece and Egypt, and on the other hand the increasingly important role that our country plays in the Middle East and Gulf."

The source emphasised that this is "something that was also evident during the recent Philia Forum meeting."
