Brave little Panagiotis-Rafail Glossiotis, touched the hearts of Greeks worldwide after it became known that he is suffering from a rare life-threatening condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
Millions of euros was raised for the little boy to fly to the United States with his parents in order to undergo experimental therapy under the direction of Greek-American neurologist Basil Darras at Boston Children’s Hospital, in Massachusetts.
Spinal Muscle Atrophy is a rare, degenerative and until recently terminal disease affecting the entire musculoskeletal system, including swallowing and breathing.
Type I is the most serious with a life expectancy of 2 years without treatment and it was imperative Panagiotis have this treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital prior to being 24 months of age.
His progress following the surgery has been satisfactory and for the first time, he got to experience snow!
"For the first time our little hero is strong enough to get out in the snow !! He was excited and very happy! All this thanks to you and your love, you did the impossible," his parents posted on Facebook.
