A call for Russian youth to participate in celebrating 200 years since the beginning of the Greek War of Independence was made by the Greek Embassy in Moscow as they are coordinating with some of the country's top universities.
Students of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the MGIMO Institute of International Relations and the Kuban State University in Krasnodar will give their thoughts on "How Freedom is won" through videos and other mediums.
According to an announcement by the Greek Embassy in Moscow, sending videotaped messages to Greece starts in March and will continue with a specific theme for each month of 2021.
This is so Russian students in Greek can know Russian Philhellenic poets better, as well as Dionysios Solomos, Ioannis Kapodistrias, the naval battle of Navarino, the Friendly Society and other issues related to the Greek struggle for freedom from the Ottoman Empire.
The videos in April will have the theme of Russian Philhellene poets, in May it will be about the Friendly Society, in June about Dionysios Solomos, in July about Ioannis Kapodistrias and so on until December.
The Embassy also said that video clips will be posted on the social media accounts of the embassy, as well as university departments.
"Through this initiative we want to address the Russian youth, utilising 1821 as an important anniversary that brings our two peoples closer," said the Ambassador of Greece in Moscow, Ekaterini Nasika.
"This is our first action in the wider context of a very rich program that we have prepared during the year," she added.
