World reacts to 'Greek God' Tsitsipas after his epic comeback victory against Rafael Nadal

The match lasted four hours and five minutes. Greece’s star Stefanos Tsitsipas, who in a career-defining performance, came back from two sets to love down to triumph over the Spanish legend Rafael Nadal.

The World No.6 had the fighting spirit.

He became the third player to beat Nadal from two sets to love down, along with Roger Federer and Fabio Fognini.

“It was a difficult game, I had a lot of problems. I showed maturity. I'm happy for myself. I'm proud that I fought hard and did not give up. It's an incredible feeling. I do all this not only for myself, but also for my country. In every game I give. It's about my love for tennis," Tsitsipas said after the match on Wednesday evening.

He outlasted Nadal 3-6, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 7-5 to reach the semifinals of the 2021 Australian Open.

His comeback instantly became the top media story globally.

Many now refer to him as the "Greek God of tennis”.

Tonight, Tsitsipas takes on Russian Daniil Medvedev.

Following the match, the Spanish champion bowed to the talent of Tsitsipas, whom he characterised as a top tennis player, among others.

"I missed a couple of balls in the tie-break that I shouldn’t, that I could not miss if I want to win,” Nadal said.

“And that’s it. I think Stefanos played a great fourth and fifth set. I was there. I played a couple of bad games.

“He played better than me probably in important moments.

“I think he changed a lot the level ... I think in the third he already start to play much better. Then in the fourth and fifth I think he played a very, very high level of tennis.”

100% of this year’s sales will assist those affected by COVID-19 and food insecurity.

The limited-edition souvlaki is available from today, Monday 1 February until Wednesday 24 February.

“I feel at home in Melbourne and I love being welcomed by the Greek community here” Tsitsipas said.

“All throughout quarantine I’d been craving a Stalactites souvlaki so I’m excited to finally be here with my team and family,” he added.

Donations will be split amongst two charities –Melbourne based charity SecondBite and ‘Together for the Children’, a charity close to Tsitsipas’ heart back in Greece.
