George Papacostas, Greece’s new Ambassador to Australia, formally presented his credentials to David Hurley, the Governor-General of Australia, in a ceremony at Government House on Wednesday.
Greece’s new representative to Australia is a career diplomat who served as Greece’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo before assuming his new post.
He has also served in crucial diplomatic positions for Greece in Slovenia, Sweden and Armenia, and Brussels, Belgium.
Papacostas, who speaks Greek and English, is a graduate of the School of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The new ambassador replaces Ekaterini Xagorari, who had served in that position since 2016.
The Greek Ambassador to Australia also represents the country in the geographical areas of New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the Solomon Islands, and Kiribati, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, and Nauru.
