A demand by Thessaloniki's Muslim community for a mosque was rejected by Greek authorities.
An application by the Macedonia-Thrace Muslims Education Culture Foundation to build a mosque in the northern port city was two years in the making, but was ultimately denied by Greece's Education and Religion Ministry.
The ministry's authorities cited a lack of documents and technical details.
“Greece, which does not open the existing mosques, also does not show Muslims another place for their worship," a member of the foundation told Daily Sabah.
"Our applications to conduct our worship in our foundation have been also rejected with excuses outside the legal regulations,” the member added.
