Greece can see up to 15 kilometers inside Turkish territory with new surveillance system

With a new surveillance system at the Evros land border with Turkey, Greece can see 15 kilometres into Turkish territory.

Specifically, with 11 cameras and long-range radars installed in the area between Sofiko in Orestiada and the river delta in Alexandroupolis, Greece now has the ability to see deeply into Turkish territory to monitor the movement of illegal immigrants attempting to enter.

The cameras and radars will be linked to police headquarters and six other operational centres and the entire project is worth €14.9 million.

It is being funded by the European Commission’s Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs.
