The government gave in to the demands made by locals to not extend the migrant camp to house more illegals.
According to the local media outlet, this was confirmed by mayor of Orestiada, Vassilis Mavridis.
Specifically, in a post he mentions:
"Statement by the Government Spokesperson just now: The Government, after consulting with the local community, decided not to expand and increase the capacity of the Outpost Center!"
Migration Minister Notis Mitarakis came under fire for his plans to extend the migration camp.
Locals highlighted that in February-March 2020 the entire community mobilised to stop Turkey's induced migration crisis but that the government was now opening the gates for illegal immigrants by expanding the capacity of the camp.
