Greece has now surpassed 850,000 vaccinations, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias announced over the weekend.
The minister praised the efforts of medical staff and the work of both the Civil Protection Secretariat and the Digital Governance Ministry.
“We are very close to achieving the target, which is to win over this health battle we have been giving for a whole year”, he added.
At the same time, all Kastellorizo residents have been vaccinated against covid-19.
In the article entitled “Greece, the island of Kastellorizo is Covid-free. All inhabitants are vaccinated,” Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera referred to the country’s vaccination strategy.
“It is the strategy of the Greek government to protect small and remote areas and to give a new impetus to tourism in view of the summer,” journalist Paolo Conti wrote.
He also emphasised that offering “covid free areas” is a great tourism strategy.
As reported on GCT, international holiday bookings surged by as much as 600% after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled the roadmap out of lockdown.
Ryanair, easyJet, TUI and Thomas Cook reported a jump in bookings to destinations including Greece, Spain and Turkey.
August breaks are the most popular, followed by July and September.
