Russian-Greek Intergovernmental Committee will convene later this month to boost relations

The Russian-Greek Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation will hold a teleconference on March 18, Greek Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexandros Papaioannou said.

Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and Vitaly Saveyev, Russia's Minister of Transport, will meet at the conference as co-chairs of the Commission.

"The convening of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission was discussed during the talks between Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov when he was in Athens," Papaioannou said.

"The meeting should take place as soon as possible," he said, adding "Unfortunately, today the pandemic is a problem and it is not yet known when the committee will meet in real life."

According to him, it is difficult to talk about a possible date, adding that he has no information on the issues to be discussed at the conference.

The meeting was first scheduled for spring 2020.

Both countries express their desire to strengthen political and economic relations.

It should be noted that the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas, had a meeting a few days ago in his office in the Parliament with Russian Ambassador Andrei Maslov.

The Chairman of the Greece-Russia Friendship Group, Simos Kedikoglou, was also present at the meeting.

During their meeting, they discussed, among other things, issues of bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
