5.3 Richter earthquake strikes Elassona

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck shortly before 3 a.m. Friday in Elassona.

According to the Geodynamic Institute, the focal depth of the earthquake was 2.7 km.

The quake struck 17 kilometers west-southwest of Elassona.

A few minutes later, earthquakes of 3.7, 3.6 and 3.9 magnitude with the same epicenter followed.
