French President Emmanuel Macron cancelled his visit to Athens to commemorate 200 years since the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Empire.
According to French Prime Minister Jean Castex, Macron will remain in France due to the COVID-19 third wave.
As Castex said, “the country is facing a third pandemic wave and the epidemiological situation requires strict measures.”
For the next four weeks, residents of the French capital and the other 16 red areas will be in a strict lockdown.
Travel between counties is prohibited and curfew will start at 19:00 instead of 20:00.
Instead of the president, France will be represented on March 25 by Defence Minister Florence Parley.
