1821 - “ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΊΑ Ή ΘΆΝΑΤΟΣ” - “Freedom or Death”

Ladi Biosas λάδι βιώσας commemorates Greece’s 200 years of Independence with a Limited Edition Design of Kalamata extra virgin olive oil.

The Colours of the Limited Edition Ceramic Blue are the traditional colours of the Greek flag. Greece's sky and sea, clouds and waves.

The nine stripes of the flag symbolise the nine syllables of the phrase "Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος - Freedom or Death" (E-le-fthe-ri-a i Tha-na-tos in Greek), the motto of the Hellenic Revolution.

The commendable phrase of the Hellenic Revolution "Freedom or Death", is imprinted on the side of each bottle.

Additionally, on the front side of the bottle 3 symbols stands out as an iconic references for Greece’s 200th Independence Day:

  • An Olive Wreath that commemorates Nike the goddess of victory as she crowns with Olive wreaths all the heroes of 1821.
  • The iconic helmet of Theodoros Kolokotronis, the Greek General also known as "Geros tou Moria".
  • The church of Agioi Apostoloi in Kalamata city with a historical significance as it is here on 23rd of March 1821 that the revolution of the Greek independence begun.

It is an ode to all our heroes and heroines from Greece and around the world, to all the Philhellenes, that fought with an extraordinary force of hope for independence, principles of liberty, freedom, and democracy.

It's the perfect gift for all true Philhellenes and any gourmet foodie.

“Ladi” means oil in Greek, and this is a single estate unfiltered monovarietal and organically cultivated ultra-premium extra virgin olive oil made of the regal/king variety of olives, Koroneiki.

Every harvest, at an altitude of 600m above sea level amidst junipers, citruses and arbutus trees, the family selects the olives by hand and first cold press them.

The result is a superb delicate, bright, fresh and intensively fruity extra virgin olive oil with very low acidity of 0.1-0.2.

The very high content of oleic acid and polyphenols also gives it superb health benefits and therapeutic properties.

The organoleptic characteristics show a well-balanced olive oil with medium fruitiness (5.5), bitterness (5) and pungent (4.5).

The flavours that emerge are tomato leaves, eucalyptus and a combination of herbaceous and fresh grass taste with a delicate peppery finish.

It pairs exceptionally well with fish, meats, vegetables, bread and salads, and it's ideal for every day use too!

The fine quality of this product doesn’t end there, Ladi Biosas has won numerous design awards for its irresistible Doric style bottles.

The ceramic bottles were made by renowned Greek ceramist George Vavatsis and Greece’s most famous painter/etcher Takis Katsoulidis created the font itself, “λάδι βιώσας”.

Did you know that Ladi Biosas is a direct reference to the Epicurean philosophy phrase, “live in obscurity”?
