Cypriot Minister of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth, Prodromos Prodromou, on Monday met with the Greek Ambassador to Cyprus, Theocharis Lalacos, at the Embassy of Greece in Nicosia.
During the meeting, Lalacos handed Prodromou a copy of the flag of the Cypriot fighters of the 1821 Greek Revolution.
“This flag, which Lalacos had the kindness to hand me a copy of, is the flag with which the Cypriot fighters fought in ’21. A copy will be given to all schools and in this way, with this high symbolism, we want to emphasise the great importance of the 200th anniversary of the Greek uprising but also to remind how close Cyprus is to the fate of the rest of Hellenism,” Prodromou said.

On his part, Lalacos congratulated the Cypriot minster and the entire government for the initiative to use the flag as an inspiration for students in schools all over Cyprus.
“The flag of the Cypriot fighters is a constant reminder of the unity of the Greek nation in the struggles it waged, and of the fraternal ties that unite Greek and Cypriot Hellenism,” he concluded.
