The world’s happiest countries in 2021 – Where is Greece?

The UN annual World Happiness Report for 2021, which measures and lists the happiest countries in the world, has been published.

At the top of the list for happiest countries is Finland for the fourth year in a row.

Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands following in second, third, fourth and fifth place respectively.

By contrast, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are at the bottom of the list.

As for Greece, it rose to 51st place this year, while Cyprus is 32nd.

This year’s list is clearly defined by the COVID-19 pandemic that has killed more than 2.6 million people worldwide, changing people’s daily lives, habits and ways of thinking.

The World Happiness Report 2021 has been drafted slightly differently this time due to the pandemic as researchers in some countries were unable to complete their interviews.

The main criteria for compiling the report, which began in 2012, is mainly based on GDP, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom and income.
