Germany "forgot" about Greece's Independence Day yesterday

Germany's stances at not only the European Council, but also towards the anniversary of Greece's bicentennial anniversary of independence against the Ottoman Empire, made an impression.

As mentioned in a report in "Greek Hour" on OPEN TV, the attitude of Germany was particularly cold in relation to the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence.

The only statement made was by the Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who sent his congratulations to Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

"Germany did not support Greek proposals either on a symbolic level, nor yesterday at the Summit," it was said on Open TV.

In fact, on March 25, German Chancellor Angela Merkel clearly supported Turkey at the Summit.

"Our prosperity in Europe is only possible through good relations with our neighbours outside the EU, and this is especially true for NATO partner Turkey, with whom relations are multifaceted," Merkel said.

She continued: "It is good news that Turkey, after provocative activities in Cypriot and Greek waters, has shown in recent months a sign of de-escalation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Merkel also mentioned the fact that Turkey has "re-entered into dialogue with Greece and talks on the future of Cyprus in the 5 + 1 format under the auspices of the United Nations."
