Consumers will only be allowed one shopping trip per day, Greece's Trade and Consumer Protection Secretary General Panagiotis Stamboulidis announced on Thursday.

"We can send only one message a day and one our name and surname. The reply to the second message will be a refusal," he said.

From Monday April 5, retail opens, and individuals must send an SMS text message to 13033 (option 6) in order to obtain permission.

The presence of one customer per 25 square meters will be allowed in each store, with a maximum of 20 customers.

Shoppers must follow strict social distancing rules while making purchases in person in all retail stores.

Mask wearing is mandatory in all public places.

Movements between municipalities for shopping will also be permitted on weekdays, provided an appointment has been booked in advance by phone or online, and people must carry their identity card or passport on shopping trips, he added.

He also clarified that payment when picking up goods ordered by the 'click and collect' method must use cards and not cash.

Shops in malls, department stores and outlets will not be allowed to reopen yet.
