Peloni: AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine "is safe and effective"

Government spokeswoman, Aristotelia Peloni, speaking on OPEN TVthis morning commented about about the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

"In no case is discontinuation of vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine discussed," she said.

"It is safe, it is effective, the European Medicines Agency said yesterday, noting that the benefits outweigh the risks," Peloni continued.

She cited the example from Britain, where 18.1 million AstraZeneca vaccines have been given and only 30 cases of thrombosis have been reported.

The average seven-day vaccination appointment with AstraZeneca is 93%, she said.

The spokeswoman noted that there is some reluctance by some age groups generally about vaccines.

Regarding the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, Peloni said that Greece follows instructions from the European Medicines Agency and gets the vaccines that are approved by them.
