24-year-old Konstantinos Chamalidis, a member of Greek Olympic team which will qualify for the Tokyo Games next month, won bronze in the -68 kg category at the 2021 European Taekwondo Championship, which was held in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.
The Greek athlete grabbed his head, not believing what he had achieved, knelt on the tatami and did his cross.
"A big thank you to all of you who were by my side and supported me, the Greek federation and the coaches @hellenictaekwondofederation, to you who believed in me, my sports club, my father and my coach who has been by my side for 20 years," he posted on Instagram.
"The big goal has not been fulfilled yet, we continue energetically for the dream," Chamalidis concluded.
This was the second medal for Greece in the competition, after Dionisis Rapsomanikis won silver in the-54 kilograms final.
Chamalidis overcame Czech Fialas 21-1 in the round of 32, Belarusian Radvan 18-15 in the round of 16 and Polish Zesnowski 16-9 to progress to the -68 kilograms semi-finals.
He was defeated by French Syden 20-7.
